Help to Help Beneficiaries are always glad and so grateful to the Help to Help scholarship program which came in to support a future that would have fallen away because of shortage of tuition. With such a gracious heart, the beneficiaries carry out an outreach to the community to create a change in the community, change makers. Like it has been for the previous semesters, the change makers went out and conducted a heartfelt outreach session to the community.

Outreach Project

Outreach was carried out on the o4th of March, 2023.The outreach project was to visit street children. This was intended to have a talk with them, encourage them and give them hope. On top of that, the outreach was carried out with Gigi mercy foundation, a foundation that takes care of street children and has a vision of listening to the plea of the street children and provide the best service there is. These services include:

  • Taking the street children who want to go back home to their family.
  • Educating the street children who want to go back to school.
  • Training technical skills to the street children.

Along with Gigi mercy foundation, the beneficiaries took items to the street children home to help them out in their day to day life. These included; sanitary towels, reflector jackets, mattresses and blankets. During the interaction session with street children, sweets were given out to the children and this made the session more vibrant.

Findings from the interactions with the street kids

  • Some wanted to go back home.
  • Others wanted to go back to school.
  • They have a challenge of shortage of basic needs like water, food and medication, sanitary towels for the girls and beddings.
  • Some street kids had given up on life and were indulging in drug abuse like shisha.
  • Some of the street kids ran away from the street kids home to go and indulge in prostitution.
  • Shelter is a challenge as it is not big enough to accommodate the big numbers of over 500 street kids in the facility.

Achievements of the outreach

The outreach was a success and the change makers were able to fully interact with the street kids and a lot was shared during these interactions. The street kids became more hopeful for the future after the visit.

The street kids were given heavy lunch and this brought them great joy.

The street kids received some things they needed for their day to day life like sanitary towels.

Challenges

Some companies that were approached by the beneficiary leaders for outreach support did not respond positively and this left the beneficiaries with a little less resources for use during the outreach.

Conclusion

All in all, we are grateful to God and to the whole beneficiary body for the support and contribution towards the success of the outreach.
